The farmer and the snake

One winter a Farmer found a Snake stiff1 and frozen with cold.
He had compassion2 on it, and taking it up, placed it in his bosom3.
The Snake was quickly revived4 by the warmth, and resuming5 its natural instincts6, bit its benefactor7, inflicting8 on him a mortal9 wound. "Oh," cried the Farmer with his last breath, "I am rightly served for pitying10 a scoundrel11."
